Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my upbringing and how I was raised. My parents instilled the values in me. We saw them both, both my mom and dad, helping neighbors. We grew up helping people. So I think all of my success has been to understand that you have to have longevity. You have to believe in yourself. If you don't know your value, you can't expect a title or someone to tell you who you are. You have to know who you are. And then you take that passion, and you turn it into purpose. And so, when you understand your purpose and you really kind of water that seed of purpose with passion, you can get to any place that you're trying to go to.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Be your authentic self. My father used to have a quote that has stayed with me for some time now. He would tell me, it is not what people call you, it is what you answer to. So choose to answer to greatness. If I'm having a day, I remember those words. It's not what they call you, it's what you answer to, and I choose to answer to greatness.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't give up. We know that the banking field is male-dominated, mostly. But I would tell other women, understand your worth. Understand your talents. Understand that you belong. Not only are you included, but you belong in that seat that you're sitting in. You have to understand what you bring to the table. You bring the diversity of thought, not just being the diversity of having, of being a woman, but your diversity of thought. And making sure that your voice is heard. Don't shrink to fit in. Be confident in who you are as a person and as a professional.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think the biggest challenge in our industry right now in banking is that the system, the industry, is changing on its own. There's a lot of things that have changed. I think our systems are changing, I think the needs of our consumers are changing, but what's not changing is that people still believe in people. The challenge is that integrity piece. If you say that, especially in what I do as a community development manager, I think that you know that you're working with people that are looking for affordable housing, you have to make sure that we have CRA, and to me, all of those things are not a checkbox moment. It is actually doing right by the people. All you have to do is just do right by people.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, being able to be authentic, honesty, and definitely fairness. If you say you're gonna do something, you need to be able to follow through. Don't just tell me you're going to do something, I need to follow through.
