Her Story

About Christine

I've worked in government, retail, and technology before entering health insurance technology 6 years ago. Today, I work on the implementation side where I manage large implementations of Medicaid systems in different states. I manage a team of around 12 people, and my main area of expertise is the member area in health insurance. We configure the system, gain requirements from the client, and deliver the final product while mitigating risks and defects along the way. I originally planned to be a project manager, which was my specialty in my master's degree, but along the way I found this particular job and really liked doing the work. I've stayed in this route because I enjoy doing more of the actual work with requirements, gathering information, and producing something, rather than just managing all the different project components. Being in this position allows me the best of both worlds - I still get to do the work, but I'm also managing a portion of the project and leading a team. I have a mentor here who has been very helpful throughout my career.

Ten minutes with Christine

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my family support. Having that foundation and encouragement from my family has been essential to everything I've been able to accomplish in my career.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Work hard. Be honest. Those integrity things are very important. And work hard - that's really the most important thing. Ask questions. Be engaged, things like that. If you have integrity, work hard, ask questions, and stay engaged, you'll be successful in this industry.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Artificial intelligence is both a challenge and an opportunity right now. We're trying to incorporate it into the work we do and seeing how it fits and will help, so we're not falling behind the competition. With costs rising and the demand for technology and regulatory expertise, we're trying to utilize AI to be competitive. I think if you are open to embracing it, it will help moving forward. Modernization is also key - that incorporates the AI as well, so it can be in both areas. The challenge is staying competitive while the opportunity is for those who are open to embracing these new technologies.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are honesty, hard work, and integrity. These principles guide everything I do, both professionally and personally, and I believe they are essential to success and building trust with others.
