Her Story

About Deepal

Originally from India, I came to the United States in 2017 to pursue a master’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences. What began as a two-year academic journey soon evolved into a deeper calling. Inspired by the possibilities within pharmaceutical research and its direct impact on human health, I went on to earn my PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2022.

Today, I work at the intersection of formulation development and analytical testing—ensuring that pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical products are not only effective, but also safe and reliable for patients worldwide. My work in the lab directly supports the development of therapies that move from concept to pharmacy shelves, ultimately improving and saving lives.

“Science, for me, is not just discovery—it’s responsibility. Every product we develop has a patient waiting on the other side.”

My work involves rigorous testing of manufactured products, as well as the development of new formulations aimed at treating a wide range of diseases. For me, the most rewarding part of my career is knowing that my contributions extend far beyond the lab.

I am an active member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) and have also contributed to communities like Women in Bio, supporting the advancement of women in science and leadership.

Ten minutes with Deepal

01What do you attribute your success to?

I credit my journey to consistent hard work and an unrelenting commitment to my goals. My perseverance and attention to detail, especially during the demanding years of doctoral research—has been a defining force in my career.

“Progress isn’t always visible, but persistence always compounds. Staying the course is what creates breakthroughs.”

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

“Stay curious but stay resilient. Research will challenge you more than it rewards you in the moment—but those who stay with it create the future.”

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I encourage young women entering the pharmaceutical and biotech industries to trust their abilities and embrace the learning curve. I believe it’s not necessary to have everything figured out from the start—what matters is stepping forward, asking questions, and taking ownership of your growth. I also believe that diverse perspectives are a strength, and that our field needs more voices willing to think boldly and lead with confidence.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The pharmaceutical industry is evolving rapidly, with advancements in drug development, biologics, and personalized medicine creating both complexity and opportunity. I believe that while keeping pace with innovation can be challenging, it is also what makes the field dynamic and rewarding, constantly pushing the boundaries of patient care.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, curiosity, and impact are at the core of my work and life.

“I believe in doing work that matters—and doing it with honesty, precision, and purpose.”
