Her Story

About Giovanna

I am a social communicator and digital marketing expert with over 20 years of experience in my field, having earned my degree in 2002. Currently, I serve as Executive Director of a nonprofit organization that promotes education for Latino restaurant owners, where I train them on all topics related to business including Human Resources, Administration, Management, business planning, and hospitality industry certifications. I also own and run my own digital marketing agency with my husband as my business partner, working with clients not just in Des Moines but across the United States in Texas, Virginia, and Florida. My mission is to help the Latino community by providing training on AI tools, communication skills, and marketing through workshops in Spanish, because I want to reduce the gap between AI knowledge and the community since most information is in English. I am proud to be the first Latino woman in the Des Moines area doing this work. Originally from Nicaragua, I worked for Plan International Nicaragua for six years in my last role there, and also gained experience with national nonprofits, as a university teacher, and as a consultant. When I came to this new country, I had to begin from zero, but I have been able to continue working in my expertise and follow my dreams. My goal is not just running my business, but engaging my expertise and experience to help the community, because if other business owners grow, my business grows with them, and we help the city and the economic dynamic of the city.

Ten minutes with Giovanna

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the education my mother gave me. She always told me that education is her only heritage for me, and that I have to work very hard and study very hard because this is the most important thing I can do in my life. I feel very blessed that I can continue and follow my dreams and goals in a new country, because nobody has this opportunity that God gave me in this country. I am also grateful for all the very good people with good hearts who have always shared advice with me and guided me here. I believe in being useful in every moment of our life, because we just have one life, we live every day. If you don't do it, who's going to do it? Everybody has specific God plans, so I think we have to be grateful every day.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The most important values to me are helping the community and being useful in every moment of my life. It's not just about running my business, it's about engaging my expertise and experience to help the community. If other business owners grow, my business grows with them, and we help the city and the economic dynamic of the city. That's why we are doing workshops in Spanish for the Latino community. I also believe in being grateful every day and serving the community, whether through my work, my church, or mentoring other women. I received a lot of help and blessings when I came to this country, so now I have to return this blessing to another woman. I believe everybody has specific God plans, and we have to be useful because if you don't do it, who's going to do it?
