Her Story

About Jada

My journey in entertainment began in 2021 when I started in the acting industry and got signed to my acting agency. However, I realized music was the lane I wanted to pursue seriously, especially after entering grad school. I interned at a record label in Los Angeles for about 9 months, starting at the associate level, and my skills and instincts earned me a promotion to executive assistant. From there, I transitioned to become the spearhead for the music production company within the label. Now in my second year as a professional executive, I work strategically with songwriters and producers, handling scouting and recruiting for interns and other talent. I also work with another company as a shareholder, helping get artists on the radio and billboards through radio promotion. My boss and mentor have both pointed out my notable ability to place people in the right positions and directions. I structure my week with intention - Mondays for goal-setting, Tuesdays for executive team alignment, Wednesdays for meetings and mentoring my interns (like today when we did a musical exercise to sharpen their scouting skills), and Thursdays and Fridays for reflection and completion. Beyond my executive work, I'm also a singer, songwriter, and artist actively building my own catalog.

Ten minutes with Jada

01What do you attribute your success to?

I'm very, very present. When you're very present, you don't worry about getting one goal done and then immediately worrying about the next thing. When you're present, you're really able to appreciate the journey and not the destination. The ability to pivot has also been crucial for me - I started in the acting industry in 2021, but being present allowed me to recognize that music was where I wanted to be and make that transition. So pivoting and being present will allow you to really just be your best self.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I received, which I heard a lot in grad school at University of Miami, is to be a student to the game. That applies to life, or whatever industry you're trying to be in, whether that's in sport, entertainment, music, or any field. That overall will get your mind right and is something you should be aware of - just being a student.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Take up space. And be blunt in your opinion. Don't be afraid to hurt feelings, because yours matters first and foremost for you to be your best self. Being a woman in a male-dominated industry, you have to be stern and not afraid to hurt feelings with your critiques, because essentially, you want to make people better. Don't be afraid of how people are going to respond to that. Especially as a woman, your opinion could easily be dismissed like, oh, she's just in the background. Like, no, I'm here, and I'm obviously here for a reason.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Being a woman in a male-dominated industry is one of the biggest challenges. Really just being stern and not afraid to hurt feelings with my critiques, because essentially, you want to make people better. And just not being afraid of how people are going to respond to that. Especially as a woman, your opinion could easily be dismissed like you're just in the background. But no, I'm here, and I'm obviously here for a reason.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Keeping my word is most important to me, because I expect others to keep theirs. If you deal with people that don't keep their word, that's just them, but you only have your word and the action that comes behind that. So that's something that I really value.
