About Rebecca
I've been a CFO for 15 years in a property management company that my ex-husband and I started together. We specialize in low-income housing, and each of our properties is its own LLC, so I oversee each property's financials, deal with investors, and handle reports. I've always been in some sort of finance - before this, I worked for a financial planning firm doing books and payroll and support, and I worked in compliance for a broker-dealer that oversaw financial planners. I also did mortgages for a very short period and one season of taxes - I just kind of tried different things to see what I liked. I don't have certifications, but I've done this work for so long and have always been in charge of the financials. My ex-husband and I were able to have an amicable divorce because working together and being married was not our thing, but we work very well together in business. He trusts me to do the financials, and I trust him to do what he does. One of the things I'm most proud of is bringing services into the community to help people in need - whether it's church services or county services or different churches coming in to help. We collect donations and invite everybody in our communities to come for a free garage sale twice a year, making it a big event. To me, that's the most rewarding part - we make a living off of this, and to be able to give back to others in need is what I love most about what we do.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Anything's possible. I grew up in a time where my mom said, oh, you're gonna be a secretary, and then you'll have kids and raise your children. And I remember thinking, no, no, no, I'm gonna do something bigger than that. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would get here, and I'm so proud of myself that I never gave up. I really let myself be open to whatever - anything's possible. I think especially for women, sometimes other people limit us, and I never listened to those voices. I was like, oh, no, no, no, anything's possible for me.
