Her Story
About Wanda
Throughout my career, I've held several positions as an RN case manager, where I approved patients using interqual criteria and Milliman criteria for inpatient, observation status, and same-day surgeries in both psych and medical settings. I've worked as an RN case manager specifically in psych, where I aided patients in obtaining the care they needed, and also in medical and utilization management. I've been an RN auditor with the state of Tennessee, auditing records for quality and compliance and participating on a state of Tennessee survey team. I've also evaluated Medicaid cases for incapacity and supervised 5 to 10 employees. I have a postgraduate certificate in informatics from UT Health Science Center that I received in 2023, my BSN from Belmont, and my RHIA and degree in Health Information Management from UT Health Science Center. I have a good, reliable employment history with some very good performance evaluations as a valued employee, fully productive and exceptional.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would recommend working with a career counselor on your resume. I've had chat AI rewrite my cover letter, and I've done my own, and some organizations are using AI more and more, but some organizations like a real person and don't like everything just edited by AI. So get with somebody that can help you compose a good resume. I worked with a career counselor because I have two degrees and credentials and the postgraduate certificate. I would also recommend networking, try to network as much as possible. It's a little bit easier for younger individuals to obtain a position than it is for somebody like myself. If you have someone that works for the company, that helps. Just network.
