Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to resilience, integrity, and an honest, sincere desire to be part of something larger than myself. My 20-year career in nursing instilled in me the importance of compassion and advocacy, and that foundation continues to guide me as I dedicate myself to improving veterans’ health—a measure of giving back for the life I have been given.

My drive also comes from the example I hope to set for my daughters and grandchildren. By remaining focused and determined at this stage of life, I want them to see that goals are never out of reach. There are no missed opportunities, only those delayed until one is ready and able to give them the dedication and energy they deserve.

Ultimately, my success is rooted in gratitude—for the mentors, educators, and colleagues who invested in me, and for the trailblazers who paved the way for women in healthcare leadership. It is my commitment to meaningful impact and to championing healthcare leadership with integrity and vision that continues to propel me forward.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received came from my father when I was just ten years old: “No matter what you do for a living, be the best at it that you can. Give an honest day’s labor for an honest day’s wage. If you are cleaning horse stalls for a living, then be the best horse stall cleaner there ever has been.”

I have carried those words with me throughout my life. His advice instilled in me the values of integrity, dedication, and pride in one’s work—principles that continue to guide me today. Success, in my view, is not about titles or accolades, but about showing up with sincerity, giving your best effort, and honoring the trust others place in you
